Hi, I’m Ellen.
I believe the more awareness you have of a person’s circumstance, the better you understand their intrinsic nature. The willingness to learn and understand one another opens the way for compassion and connection.
I am learning to live every day from my strengths of empathy, connectedness, love of learning, developing people, places and things which includes restoring messy relationships into something meaningful and messy spaces into something sustainable. I have spent too many years focusing on overcoming my weaknesses and helping others overcome theirs, I ended up flat on my face and in despair. It is so much more inspiring to work with my strengths and the gifts of others. Amazingly, every relationship has improved and the possibilities for new friendships being built on this foundation is exciting. Believe me, life naturally ensures time for weaknesses to shine.
A few things I value:
Community which includes a place to know God and develop spiritually, my family and friends, neighbors and strangers.
Vulnerability. It’s important to me to know others deeply and to be known.
Creativity. Let’s turn new and imaginative ideas into something real and fantastic!
Well-Being. Emotional, spiritual, mental and physical wellness in myself and for others.
Wholeheartedness. Let’s just be sincere, authentic, engaging and fully present with each other.
Kindness. “The first question which the priest and Levite asked was: “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But the good Samaritan reversed the question:”If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”” Martin Luther King Jr.
Inclusion. “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” Mother Teresa
A few of my passions:
Words. I love reading them. I love writing them. I love hearing them. I love speaking them.
Connecting and hospitality. Gathering over great food, conversation and laughter. It’s ok to cry too.
Deep waters. Being present for others in their times of darkness, uncertainty. Joy and happiness are pretty cool, too.
Family foundations. Safety, food, shelter, clothing, discovery and development. And the greatest of these, to be loved.
Belonging. Making room so everyone fits….especially for those who don’t seem to.
Mentoring and being mentored. I love to pour out what is being poured in. Reaching up and reaching over.
Love, laughter, wine, water, mountains, trees, rest, rain and music are a few things I delight in.
That’s me in a nutshell.
